PHOTO SUBMITTED The dinner is held across the globe celebrating the poet Robert Burns.
Appalachian Highland Games, Inc. will host the third annual Robert Burns Dinner on Thursday, January 25, 2007, at 6:30 p.m. This year the dinner will be held at the Ballroom, 51 Hiwassee Street in Murphy.

The evening will feature fine dining with a selection of en trees and other food provided by Doyle's Cedar Hill Restaurant. There will also be music and entertainment, including the traditional "Address to the Haggis." Everyone is invited to attend, whether or not they have Scottish ancestry.

Seating is limited and is by prior written reservation received by noon on Monday, January 22. Reservation forms and further information about the dinner can be obtained at Doyle's, the Cherokee County Chamber of Commerce, the Curiosity Bookstore in Murphy, the Murphy Public Library, the Andrews Public Library and the Polished Gem in Andrews,

In celebration of the life and works of Robert Burns, Scotland's most famous poet (born January 25, 1759 - died July 21, 1796), dinners have been held annually on or about his birthday for 200 years. Burns wrote over 250 poems, over 350 songs and hundreds of letters, but is probably best known for "Auld Lang Syne" sung each year at New Years. He is the most popular poet on the face of the planet, and thousands of Burns Dinners are held across the globe each year.
