Local talent donates to Sunny D Children's theater workshops
Tellabration! is a worldwide night of storytelling sponsored by the National Storytelling Network that occurs each November. Since 2003, the storyellers have donated $2,056 to Sunny D. "We are very proud to be part of the development of these fine young actors and actresses," says Sue B. Canady, president of the storytellers. "And we apprecite the talents of the musical groups that have helped us to raise funds for this purpose." The Sunny D workshops will take place at the Kiwanis Fairground in Blue Ridge June 11 - 23, Monday through Friday, for children ages 5 - 18. The camp is open to children in all the surrounding counties. For more information, call Robbie Muschamp at 706- 838-4783 or rmuschamp@tds.net. The Mountain OASIS Folk band is made up of students who take music classes through the Older Adults Sharing In Service that meets at the First United Methodist Church in Blairsville. They participated in the storytelling for Towns County's sesquicentennial, playing songs appropriate to the different eras. The Smokie Mountain Melodies Chorus sang before the storytelling began at the Tellabration held at the Blue Ridge Community Theater. They have a concert coming up on May 5, 2007, at the Blue Ridge Performing Arts Center. They are a very talented group of ladies and we are so blessed to have this level of talent in our area. The Blue Ridge Mountains Storytellers meets on the first Sunday of each month, 2:00 p.m. at the Blue Ridge Mountains Arts Association. They have participated in Tellabration! every year since they were organized in 1997. The date for 2007 is November 3 and will again be held at the Blue Ridge Community Theater. They also tell the second Saturday of each month, 6:00 p.m. at The Silk Road Traveler located at 497 E. Main St. in Blue Ridge.
