Gregory Brugh, age 39, of Cherokee County, was sentenced in the Cherokee County Superior Court April 23 to a total active prison sentence of a minimum of 70 months and a maximum of 84 months to be served in the North Carolina Department of Corrections.

Brugh was convicted after pleading guilty to one felonycount of "Trafficking in Methamphetamines."

Superior Court Judge Ronald Payne imposed the sentence. In addition to the active sentence the judge imposed a fine of $50,000.

District Attorney Mike Bonfoey stated, "Assistant District Attorneys Melissa Jackson and Jason Smith did an excellent job in preparing this case for trial. They worked closely with the investigating officers from the Cherokee Sheriff's Offce and the Multiple Agency Narcotics Unit in preparing the case for trial."

The crime was committed by the defendant on June 30, 2006. The officers involved executed a search of Brugh's residence and found 39.43 grams of meth.

District Attorney Mike Bonfoey stated, "I commend the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office and the Multiple Agency Narcotics Unit for the excellent investigation of this case. The evidence against Mr. Brugh was strong. This is another victory in our fight against drug criminals in our community."
