Chamber planning community fish fry, boat show to reel-in tourists, new members

The Cherokee County Chamber of Commerce is planning its first Fish Fry and Boat Show in hopes of "reeling in tourists and new chamber members," said chamber Executive Director Sande Kimball. The boating extravaganza is set for Saturday, June 23, at the TVA boat ramp, downtown Murphy. Activities will spill over into the L&N Depot.

The show will open at 10 a.m. and end at 4 p.m. Fish sandwiches, coleslaw and a drink will be served between 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. The Longhouse Restaurant is doing the fish fry venue for this event to benefit the Chamber. There is no charge to attend, however the fish fry will be $6 per person.

Participating in the boat show thus far are Smith Power, Nickís Marine, High Country Canvas and Appalachian Outfitters. Some of the vendors will have boats in the water and will give demonstrations.

The committee is planning music, information on accommodations, marinas and arts and crafts that showcase lake and mountain living. Only chamber members in these businesses are being asked to participate. Any business not a member of the chamber and would like to know about the benefits of chamber membership can call 837.2242.
