Relay for Life begins Friday Relay for Life 2007 begins with a Survivor's Dinner Friday at Konehete Park followed by the traditional Survivor Lap at 7 p.m. The event to raise money for cancer research and to help those with cancer includes a number of teams and activities. Murphy Medical Center is sponsoring the Survivor's Dinner. "We encourage every survivor to come help us celebrate life," said Rod Springer, cochairman of the event. The Team/Banner Walk will begin at 7:30 and there will be judging for the Best Banner and Most Team Spirit. Vocalists for the event include Diane Crowder, Hailey Saraney, winner or the Relay Idol Contest, Kim Tomlinson, winner of the People's Choice in the Relay Idol Contest, and Jeff Crain, who will sing "I am a Survivor", which he wrote. The Luminaria Service begins at 9:30 p.m. The event will go on all night as some team members will camp out at the park. Breakfast will be donated by McDonald's at 7 a.m. and the Closing Ceremonies will be held at 8 a.m. The DJ for the event is Ed Cloud, from WCNG Radio. Everyone is encouraged to bring a lawn chair.
