Cherokee County Senior Games soon to be a reality

Nearly two months ago the first meeting of the Senior Games Steering Committee was held at the Penland Senior Center and since that time a lot has happened toward making the Senior Games a reality in Cherokee County.

Meetings with Cherokee County leaders, Murphy Medical Center, Cherokee County Parks and Recreation, and other individuals and organizationsthat will impact the creation of the Senior Games, were held over the nearly two months since that first meeting. All to whom Co-chairs Dr. Joe Keffer and Paul Napolitano spoke agreed that with the large senior population in Cherokee and the surrounding counties, the Senior Games is a plan whose time has arrived. It is now time to put all of the pieces in place.

Many events are offered as part of the Senior Games, but initially the number of activities in the First Cherokee County Games in 2008, may be somewhat limited. To this end it is important for the committee to know what events seniors are most interested in participating in. Included with this article is a list of sports and events that can be offered in the games. Check the sports/events you are most interested in and do one of the following.
