Fourth of July Hometown Celebration The Business Women of Murphy in conjunction with the Cherokee County Recreation Department and The Town of Murphy are organizing a Fourth of July Hometown Celebration that will begin at 8 a.m. with a 5-K run and end with a spectacular fireworks display at 10 p.m. A dog show and parade organized by Lisa DiCuffa will happen in downtown Murphy, followed by a kids "wheels and walking" parade and a float parade. Other events will take place at the park including a fishing tournament, field games, live music on two stages, a men's softball tournament, car show, peanut drop, food booths and of course, the grand finale fireworks show. The Business Women of Murphy is looking for corporate sponsors, crafters and food vendors who would like to take part in this family fun event. If any Scout troops, clubs, or other such organizations would like to be represented in the parade, contact Linda Bamfield at 361-6848. Food vendors contact Bonnie K. 361-1027. Also a pick up marching band consisting of anyone in the community with an instrument interested in playing, call aswell to arrange a meeting and practice time if your interested.
