Over 200 seniors to graduate this weekend
By Dwight Otwell Editor

Approximately 206 seniors are scheduled this weekend to take their last steps as high school students.

A few tears will be shed and many joyous smiles will cross the faces of family and friends as their graduates receive their high school diplomas. Mortarboards will exuberantly soar into the air after the pronouncement that they are indeed graduates.

Four high school graduations will take place on Friday and Saturday. Ceremonies will be held for Murphy High School, Andrews High School, Hiwassee Dam High School and Mountain Youth Center.

Hiwassee Dam will have the only Friday graduation ceremony. Nineteen students are scheduled to graduate in the ceremony at 7 p.m. in the high school gymnasium. Giving the senior addresses will be High Honor Senior Hannah Watson and Honor Senior Bethany Hamby. Senior Awards were presented Tuesday, May 29. Nineteen is a smaller number of graduates than usual at Hiwassee Dam High School as this was a small senior class.

Murphy High School will hold its Commencement Exercise Saturday at 10 a.m. at the football stadium. Seating will be on the field as the football stands have been torn down to make way for new stands.

About 135 seniors are scheduled to graduate. Baccalaureate services were held Sunday and Senior Awards were presented yesterday (Tuesday).

Approximately 40 seniors are scheduled to graduate at Andrews High School Saturday in a ceremony beginning at 2 p.m. at the football stadium.

Rob Ackerman and Ashley McClendon, High Honor students, will be the speakers. There will be a presentation for Outstanding Senior boy and girl. These honors are voted on by the faculty. This is also a smaller than normal class for Andrews High School.

Andrews will have its Baccalaureate and Senior Awards tomorrow (Thursday) at 6 p.m. at Andrews First Baptist Church.

Mountain Youth School will graduate about 12 students in a ceremony to be held Saturday at 4 p.m. at the First Methodist Church of Murphy. Renee Stover will give the Senior Address. A Senior Dinner was held Monday.
