Parking time limit enforced downtown
By Gabby Hudson

Town workers, (left) Adam Crisp, and Bill Crisp install the three hour parking signs along the streets of downtown Murphy. The ordinance went into effect on June 1, 2007.
Downtown visitors and employees now must closely consider when parking their vehicles during the day.

Town of Murphy employees posted signs designating 30 minute and three hour parking areas.

The three hour parking limit will be enforced by 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, except holidays. The parking spaces are located from the center of town to Church Street on Hiawassee Street, McClelland on Tennessee Street, Central Street on Peachtree Street and past the First United Methodist Church on Valley River Ave.

The 30 minute parking was to be located on the four corners of the square. However, several signs have been placed in front of a number of businesses that have a large turnover of customers.

Thirty minute signs will be located in front of Downtown Bakery, Macon Bank, First Citizens Bank and Clayton Shoe

Store.

The civil penalty (ticket) fine will be $15 to be payed within 10 days and may be subject to a $50 or more late penalty.
