Joyce Ann Bates

Joyce Ann Bates, age 61, of Murphy, NC diedThursday, May 31, 2007 at the Murphy Medical Center in Murphy, NC.

She was a native of Bradley County, Tennessee and was the daughter of the late Willard Emerson Bates, Sr. She was a member of the Ranger Baptist Church in Murphy and graduated from Hiwassee Dam High School in 1963. She lived and worked in Augusta, Georgia for five years as an E.M.T. and moved back to Murphy in 1983. She was then employed by Dr. Marsha Edmondson for three years and Dr. Daniel Eichenbaum for three years, prior to joining the staff of Murphy Medical Center as an Operating Room Scrub Technician where she worked for the next fifteen years. Her hobbies were walking, hiking, bicycling and being with her friends. Joyce volunteered with Murphy Medical Center's Road Race, Cancer Relay for Life, March of Dimes, the Health Fair and the Children's Christmas Party. She was a volunteer for MMC Nursing Home where she entertained the residents of the nursing home and hospital as a clown. She was a participant in the Alzheimer's Walk and the Crop Walk for several years. Joyce was the Coach for Ranger

Softball Team for

several years. She

served as Youth

Director, Song

Leader, G.A. Director, Sunday School Teacher

and also helped

with Vacation

Bible School. She

went on a Mission

Trip to Panama with

the Methodist

Building Team.

Joyce received Murphy Medical Center's Ambassador of the Year Award for all her many hours of volunteer work.

Joyce is survivied by her mother, Anna Mae Parks Bates of Murphy, NC; two brothers and their wives, Willard Bates, Jr. and Margie Bates of Murphy, NC and Richard and Peggy Bates of Cleveland, TN; one nephew, Phillip Bates of Cleveland, TN; and two great-nephews, Logan and Houston Daniel of Murphy, NC.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made In Memory of Joyce Ann Bates to the Ranger Baptist Church Youth Group, 151 Walker Road, Murphy, NC 28906.
