Open letter to Wendy's and McDonald's

Thinking outside the box, there is no reason we can't work together and introduce some friendly competition into our effort for one of you to outdo the other in a one/two week contest collecting trademarked items from your stores which appear as litter on the side of the road.

For several years, I have been picking up McDonald's and Wendy's trash from the shoulders of Harshaw Road, and I know that the creativity that your employees have can be focused in a creative manner to help Cherokee County achieve our goal of being the cleanest, most litter free county in North Carolina. Just think of the great public relations benefit for your stores.

Just as one idea, offer one penny for each trademarked item of roadside trash during the one or two week period. Donate the proceeds to your favorite charity. McDonald's what about the Ronald McDonald House? Wendy's what is your favorite charity?

You guys have lots of ideas, and the county and state will be better off for your insight. A key McDonald's manager told me they would beat Wendy's hands down. AWendy's manager says they will eat McDonald's lunch.

We can come up with some kind of prize or recognition for the employee who does the best job in the contest, however you want to measure it. How about a day or two off with pay? Let me know what you decide, and I will personally help with the cost.

Good luck! It's up to Wendy's to contact McDonald's or for McDonald's to contact Wendy's
