Cherokee County celebrates 4th American spirit and the colors of red, white and blue will be seen as Cherokee County residents show their pride in country and community at the "Hometown Celebration" to be held on July 4th. Independence Day Celebration will be held in both Murphy and Andrews with events throughout Wednesday July 4th. The Town of Murphy, The Cherokee County Recreation Department and the Business Women of Murphy have sponsored this years celebration and will be held in downtown Murphy and Konaheta Park. The celebration will begin at 8 a.m. and last until after 10 p.m. The scheduled for the event is as follows: *8 a.m. 5K run in the Park, *9 a.m. Men's softball tournament, *10 a.m. dog show and parade, *11 a.m. fishing tournament in the park, *12 noon peanut drop in the park, *Car show from noon to 5 p.m., *2 p.m. "Wheels & Walking" kids parade and float parade.and *at sundown the grand finale fireworks show. All Day: live music on 2 stages, car show, food booth, craft booths and field games. Music will be performed all day with live acts on 2 stages. Stage one; 3 p.m.-3:40 p.m. Barbershop Quartet, 3:40-4 p.m., Ryan Dockery, 4:14 p.m.to 4:45 p.m., Dance Classics, 5 p.m. to 6 p.m., Bowery Boys Blues Band, 6:15 p.m. to 6:45 p.m. Tim the Magician and Butterfly the Clown, 7 p.m.-9p.m. Bowery Boys Blues Band. Stage Two: 3:15 p.m. to 3:45, Enchanted Valley Squares, 4 p.m. to 5 p.m., Sanctified, 5:15 to 5:45, Dance Classics and 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. Effigy. The town of Andrews will hold all day games at the recreation park pool. Marsha Davis said the pool will open at 10 a.m. and will have events that will include watermelon spitting contests, greased watermelon in the pool and penny pick-up to name a few. |
