The assembly line of God
By Keith Williamson Special to the Sentinel
Let's assume God puts us together on an assembly line. He chooses what we are going to look like, the family we are going to be a part of, and our individual personality.
But he is not finished with us yet. He then gives each of us an irritation. (For me this is being late.)
Next, comes something to irritate our irritation. I'm going to get in trouble for writing this, but for me this is my wife who sees the starting time of an event as a general guideline and not a goal to be achieved.
Many of us will get a helper as we go down the line. God knows I need one. This too is my wife. As I sit here writing this, it amazes me she can serve as both helper and the one who irritates. Thinking more about that, I ask myself, "Why would I ever consider God given help in a negative way?"
But I have to admit there are times when I do. God must shake his head and laugh when he views my actions and idiocy regarding this!
Now let's change gears for a moment and consider this assembly line concept from God's perspective. If he made us perfect, we would see no need for him. This he does not want.
So he allows irritations, flaws, and inadequacies in the hope that we will come to him for help by believing in what Jesus did for us on the cross, asking forgiveness of our shortcomings in Jesus' name, and starting a new life with him in control. In doing all of this we will never be perfect in this world, but know where to go for forgiveness and get our lives again on the right path.
One last thing about the assembly line concept. Things produced on a line really have two final destinations: They become a finished product or scrap.
God's assembly line works the same way. What destination do you want? Only you can make that choice.
