Semi-pro football team to hold cookout at Konehete
      A cook-out to raise money for the region's new semipro football team, the Cherokee Eagles, will be held Saturday, July 28 beginning at 2 p.m. at Konehete Park. Coach and player Nathan O'Neal said there will be steaks, hamburgers, chicken, French fries and soda - all you can eat.

Marble Youth basketball camp
      Marble Youth Basketball will be having a basketball camp for boys and girls ages 7-14 on July 28th from 9:00 a.m.-12:30 p.m. in the Andrews Elementary Gymnasium. Good news/bad news weekend for Chastain
      The good news for Johnny Chastain and the Blondes Motors Team is the drive train problems that have plagued the team for most of the season seem to be cured. The bad news was they missed the race on Friday night and hit the wall on Saturday night.

Murphy police chief honored by the Shrine Club
      Murphy Police Chief Justin Jacobs was the honored guest at the June meeting of the WNC Shrine Club. Chief Jacobs worked himself up through the ranks to chief of the police. He comes from Nantahala where he graduated from high school. He then completed his schooling at Tri County Community College.
