Band program added at Young Harris College YOUNG HARRIS - Cathy Cox, president of Young Harris College, is pleased to announce the addition of a band program to the curriculum of the Fine Arts Division of the College. Students entering Young Harris fall semester 2007 will be able to participate in the band program, an exciting addition to the offerings at the College. "The concert band is the next logical step in the growth of the Music Department. The concert band will complement wonderfully our established ensembles and will enrich student experiences throughout the College," said Dr. Keith DeFoor, chair of the Fine Arts Division and professor of music. Young Harris College is an accredited institutional member of the National Association of Schools of Music. Mr. Alan Denmon will direct the concert band, which will consist of brass, woodwind, and percussion instruments. The concert band will be open to students from all degree programs. "This is an exciting addition to the offerings available to our students," said Dr. John Wells, Provost and Vice President for Academic Services. "As we continue in our move to four-year status, the concert band will attract many talented students to the college." The concert band will make its debut with its first scheduled concert on October 20 at 8:00 p.m. in the Hilda D. Glenn Auditorium. You can show your support for the concert band by joining Friends of the Arts Society of Young Harris College. Friends of the Arts is a patron society at Young Harris College designed to assist in supporting performing arts at the College. Interested parties will have an opportunity to join the society during the Theatre Young Harris performances. The primary mission of Friends of the Arts is to promote awareness and quality in the fine and performing arts. Financial endorsement through membership in the society allows the division of fine arts to explore new and previously unfunded endeavors. Most importantly, the membership supports the College's efforts to provide superior opportunities for students to grow and learn in an environment of uncompromising artistic and academic freedom with integrity.
