Edwin Forest

Edwin P. Forest, 82, of Hayesville died Thursday (Sept. 6, 2007) in a Murphy care facility. A native of Cohoes, NY, he had lived in Rensselaer, NY and Clearwater, FLbefore moving to Hayesville in 2005. He was the son of the late Henry J. and Rena VanDenburgh Forest. He was a veteran of WWII, serving in the US Army in the European Theatre building pontoon and bailey bridges across the Rhyne and Roan Rivers. He had been employed with General Electric at Noles Atomic Power Lab in New York and then moved to Florida with General Electric. He was a member of the Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church. Edwin's hobbies included golf and woodworking.

Surviving are his wife, Shirley Schamer Forest; a daughter, Sandra Forest Jersey and husband,

Steven of Hayesville;

three sons, Peter Henry

Forest and wife, Lynn of

Gainesville, FL, Chris

F. Forest and wife, Belinda of Houston,

TX, and Hank Forest

and wife, Stephanie of

Charleston, SC; a

brother, William Forest

of Bradenton, FL; and six grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made in memory of Edwin P. Forest to the Clay County Food Pantry, 2278 Hinton Center Road, Hayesville, NC 28904.

Ivie Funeral Home, Hayesville was in charge of arrangements.
