Bird watching again
By Keith Williamson Special to the Sentinel

Acouple of weeks ago I wrote about seeing a hummingbird around a small tree covered with a vine. I returned this week. Only two blooms remained of the hundreds that had been there earlier.

The hummingbird and bees may have left, but they were replaced by many birds of different types. After watching several brown birds with yellow chests, I saw a red cardinal on the ground.

The bird looked around and then up at the tree covered with a vine. He seemed to be anxious about not being on the tree.

The cardinal then spotted a low branch I thought must be dead because it had no leaves. He fluttered his wings and hopped onto the branch.

A great battle ensued with the limb moving as if it were about to break and the cardinal holding on for dear life. After some interesting seconds, the bird hopped up higher into the tree.

Many so-called Christians are like that bird. They don't become part of the church until something forces them to do it. For the cardinal, the only way to go higher in the tree was to make that leap of faith and hang on to that lower flimsy branch

But I'll say one thing for that cardinal, once he was on the tree he sure looked happy to be there. In the same way, I've yet to see a Christian disappointed with coming to Christ and the church. (Notice I said to Christ and the church. Those two things go together and are inseparable.)

So if you are not an active part of a church, be like that cardinal and take a leap of faith. It may seem like something you don t want to do, but take some advice from my red-feathered friend and do it. You ll be glad you did.
