Free bluegrass concert on Friday

Bluegrass music by Curtis Blackwell & The Dixie Bluegrass Boys will be featured in a free concert on Friday, October 12, at 7:30 p.m.at the John C. Campbell Folk School in Brasstown, N.C.. The public is welcome to enjoy a public exhibition of Folk School student crafts from 6:40 - 7:00 p.m in the Keith House Community Room, where the concert will be held.

Curtis Blackwell from Otto, NC is known as one of bluegrass music's finest tenor singers in the tradition of Bill Monroe, Ralph Stanley and Bobby Osborne. Over his 53 year music career he has played with bluegrass legends Bill Monroe and Charlie Moore as well as fronted his own bands. He was inducted into the Atlanta Country & Bluegrass Music Hall of Fame in November, 1998.

The Dixie Bluegrass Boys is one of the southeast's finest traditional bluegrass bands. They have recorded 3 CD's and appear at festivals throughout the country during the summer months. Band members include Curtis on guitar, Sam Cobb on bass, Charles Wood on banjo (three time winner of the National Banjo Championship at Winfield, KS), Vic Blackwell (Curtis' son) on mandolin and Pat Welsh on fiddle.

Upcoming concert series performers at the Folk School include Butternut Creek and Friends (October 19) and Geoff Hohwald and Friends (November 2). The Friday night concert schedule is available on the world wide web at http://www. folkschool.org.
