Murphy quarterback Luke Charles Friday threw touchdown passes on the first three Murphy possessions and the Bulldogs led Andrews 27-0 at the end of the first quarter.
The outcome of the game against Andrews was no longer in question but high school football games are played to the completion of four quarters in North Carolina. With the Dogs' reserves playing all of the final quarter, Andrews scored 21 points to make the final score Murphy 50, Andrews 34. With Cherokee's loss to Swain Friday night, the Dogs are tied with the Braves for first place in the Smoky Mountain Conference.
Andrews had more first downs than Murphy and total offense was nearly equal. Murphy had 419 total yards to 377 for Andrews. However, Murphy had 301 yards rushing on only 28 attempts while it took Andrews 64 rushing plays to gain 295 yards. The Dogs out-passed Andrews 118 to 82 yards, even though the Dogs kept to the ground game for the entire second half.

Patrick Canizio again led the Dogs in running the ball with 95 yards on nine carries. Speedy Ian Reese gained 78 yards on 10 carries while Anthony Brown gained 81 yards on only three carries. Rickey Edwards and Cody Killian contributed 31 yards each to the ground game.
Charles had a stellar passing game, completing seven passes in eight attempts for 118 yards and three touchdowns.
On their first possession, Charles went to work for the Bulldogs, hitting Kevin Williams for nine yards. Canizio ran for 12 and Reese gained 11 on the ground. Charles then completed a long pass to Georgie Kerber for a TD but holding against the Dogs brought the play back. Not to be deterred, Charles again found Kerber open just in front of the goal line. Kerber took the ball home for a 50-yard TD play and a 7-0 Dog lead.
On Murphy's next possession, Killian ran through the middle for 24 yards. Canizio then ran around the left side of the line and pulled a defender to the 10-yard-line. Charles then rolled to the right and lofted a pass into the endzone. Williams caught it for a TD and a 14-0 lead.

After Heath Curtis intercepted a pass, Murphy set up at the Andrews 33. Charles hit freshman tight end Michael Kernea for a 16-yard TD and the score was 20-0.
Before the end of the half, Andrews fumbled and Reese took a handoff and went through the line, veered to the left and sidestepped a runner, leaving a defender grabbing air as he completed a 23-yard touchdown run and a 27-0 lead after one quarter of play.
The Dogs stopped an Andrews drive on fourth down and took over at the Wildcat 11. Reese ran for 25 yards. He followed that up with a 51-yard run to the 13 in which he ran all over the field, switching directions a couple of times. Canizio got the TD by cracking through two defenders into the endzone after a 13-yard run.
With Murphy leading 34-0, Andrews finally drove 65 yards
for a TD with
Nikko Williams running 15 yards for the score.
Rhett Kephart
kicked a field goal with no time left on the clock to give the Dogs a comfortable 37-6 halftime lead.
After a short kickoff, the Dogs took over at the Andrews 49. Brown, on a counter play, ran through the line and all the way into
the endzone for a 44-6 Murphy lead.
However, Williams broke through a hole created by the Andrews line for 42 yards and a TD. Murphy got its last TD of the night with a three-yard Canizio run and a third quarter score of 50-13.
Andrews won the fourth quarter 21-0 as the reserves played for the Dogs and they fumbled several times.
Murphy travels to Chattanooga Friday to take on Tyner Academy in a non-conference game. Andrews travels to Swain for a conference contest.
