"Fastest knitter in the world" Coming to Yarn Circle If you enjoy knitting you may often wonder how you might be able to knit just a little bit faster. But you probably never wondered what it takes to be the fastest knitter in the world. Here is your chance to findout. Hazel Tindall, from the Shetland Islands, north of Scotland, broke the record in 2005 knitting 255 stitches in three minutes at the world competition in London. And now she is coming to western North Carolina to teach at the John C. Campbell Folk School and do a demonstration at Yarn Circle in Peachtree. "I had the pleasure of meeting Hazel when she came to the US for Convergence, the international fiber conference which happened to be in Cincinnati a few years ago," said Martha Owen, co-owner of Yarn Circle. "Hazel is an amazing knitter, know especially for her beautiful lace. She just makes it look so easy and never stops smiling." "I just enjoy promoting knitting," said Ms. Tindall in a Wall Street Journal interview. "I think the world competition promotes a very good bit of rivalry." She will participate again in 2008 when the championship event comes to Minneapolis. Area knitters can meet Hazel and watch her record setting technique at a demonstration and reception this Friday, October 26 from 3:00-4:00 p.m. at Yarn Circle. Everyone is invited for tea and conversation. There is no charge for this event. Yarn Circle is located on Rt 64 east of Murphy, across from the PARC Rehab and Fitness Center.
