Murphy, Andrews vote on alcohol Jan. 8th

Residents living in Murphy and Andrews will get to vote on alcohol issues on January 8th, 2008.

Citizens living within Murphy city limits will have the opportunity to vote on the on-premise sale of liquor by the drink and beer, and the offpremise sale of packaged beer. Andrews residents, who can already buy packaged beer, will vote on liquor by the drink and malt beverage sale on the ballot.

If the public approves of on-premis sale of alcohol, only class A establishments meeting state specific requirements will be permitted a license to sell.

City councils of both towns decided to allow the public to decide the fate of alcohol sales this month. A meeting with the Cherokee County Board of Elections last Wednesday, October 17th, set the date of the election for January 8th, 2008.

The polling locations for Murphy will be at the L&N Depot and the Murphy Public Library. Andrews locations will be at the Andrews Community Center and the Facilities Building.
