Youth pumpkin carving and decorating contest

On October 31, Cherokee County 4-H is having a pumpkin carving and decorating contest for youth ages 5-19. There will be four age divisions and you do not have to be in 4-H to participate. The age division are: Cloverbud youth ages 5-8 years of age and they will all win a ribbon and can be painted or carved (because of 4-H rules all will be equal and there will be no placing of this group); Junior division ages 9-12 can be carved or painted and will be judged differently; Senior division one ages 13-15 the pumpkins must be carved; Senior division two ages 16-19 the pumpkins must be carved. The contest will be held at the North Carolina Cooperative Extension in Murphy.

The pumpkins should be carved or painted by the child but adult supervision is suggested. Pumpkins can be brought to the office between 8:00AM October 30th and 3:30PM on October 31 and can be picked up between 4:30-5:00 on October 31.

You do not need to preregister but we would like anyone that wants to participate to call in and let us know that you are bringing in a pumpkin. Our number is (828)837-2210 or (828) 837-2917. We welcome groups to participate such as classrooms or other youth organizations. However, we do not want group pumpkins but individual youth pumpkins. Please do not put your name on the pumpkin where it is visible. You can wait until you bring your pumpkin in and we will put your name on it then. So carve and paint and do your best and bring in your pumpkins.
