HD wins volleyball playoff against Cats
By Randy Glass Sports Writer

PHOTO SUBMITTED Hiwassee Dam/Ranger Middle Schools, coached by Vivian Johnson and Stephanie Mosley, ended the season West Conference Champions with a 6-0 record. HDR placed third in the tournament that was held Saturday, Oct. 13th at Robbinsville.
Hiwassee Dam won a classic playoff volleyball match against Andrews Saturday.

The two teams played two fierce matches earlier in the year and this one was no different.

The Cats won the first game of the playoff only to have the Eagles battle back to win the second. The Lady Cats won the third to take a 2-1 lead. The Lady Eagles won match four to tie it at 2-2.

In the deciding game, the Lady Eagles won the toss and decided to serve. The Lady Cats took a quick 2-0 lead but the Eagles overtook them and won the nail biter game to win the match. The Eagle players and fans celebrated the victory but everything was in good sportsmanship.

The Lady Eagles were to have another playoff game yesterday (Tuesday). If they won that match, they were to go to Hendersonville. The Lady Eagles have no seniors so they will be strong again next year.

The Lady Cats will graduate four seniors - Meredith Wood, Shannon Christy, Jordan Bateman and Samantha Foster. The lady Cats are coached by Shanna Mustin.

The Lady Eagles are coached by Brittany Coleman and Pam Rollins.
