School health program decline likely if funds lost

      Community planning is needed to prevent the Cherokee County School system from losing five to six years worth of progress in health related issues and programs. Sue Lynn Ledford Thursday presented a school health update to the school board.

      -135 high school students in Cherokee County in online classes, Hiwassee Dam High School will be getting Mandarin Chinese II (already has Mandarin Chinese I). -70 LDC projectors and Smartboards installed this month. Thanks given to Justin Sickle and Ken Joyner for helping install.

Byers' sex conviction upheld

Local children visit Murphy Fire Department to "learn the ropes"
      Murphy Elementary School Kindergarten classes visited Murphy Fire Department to learn more about fire prevention and safety. The classes toured the fire station and watched a short video about what to do in case of a fire. The children know to stay low and go, then, call 911.

Hiwassee Dam reaches for the stars, reading a total of 28,248 minutes

      Hiwassee Dam students in grades PK - 5th grade participated in a program called "Reach for the Stars" sponsored by Usborne Books and the media center.
