Walter Oden

Walter V. Oden, age 100, of Murphy, NC died Sunday, November 11, 2007, at the Murphy Medical Center Nursing Home. He was a native of Beatrice, Nebraska and the owner and operator of a sewing machine store in Nebraska for many years. Mr. Oden moved to Murphy, NC in 2004 from Port St. Lucie, FL. He was a member of the Ranger United Methodist Church, a ham radio operator who enjoyed woodworking, furniture repair, and gardening. He was the son of the late Charles and Bertha McMains Oden. He was preceded in death by his wife Valenda Knox Oden, two daughters Barbara Oden and Mary Peck, three brothers, Howard Oden, Ralph Oden and Robert Oden.

Walter is survived by two sons Terry Oden and his wife Linda of Murphy, NC and Charles Oden and his wife Judy of Lincoln, Nebraska, thirteen grandchildren Mark, Vickie, Shari, Charles Jr., Debbie, Barbara, Kim, Stephanie, Cindy, Kevin, Dennis, Lori and Barbara, twenty-seven great-grandchildren, one great-great-granddaughter, one

sister Katherine Edwards of Stanton, Nebraska, two sisters in-law, Dorothy Oden of Loma Linda, California and Grace Oden of Council Bluff, Iowa, a special niece Mary Green and numerous nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, November 14, 2007, at the Ranger United Methodist Church in Murphy, NC. Rev. Perry Brown will officiate.

The family will receive friends from 12:00 to 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, November 14, 2007, at the Ranger United Methodist Church in Murphy, NC.
