Sheriff should be ashamed After reading the November 7th articles in the Cherokee Scout and the Cherokee Sentinel regarding the allegations concerning the misconduct of Sheriff Lovin with Loretta Huskins, who was sent to prison for 11-1/2 years, I have to admit I was deeply distressed. To see in print that Chief Deputy Tom Frye publicly discounted this woman without the least amount of compassion for her is inexcusable. According to the Bible in Romans 13, the Sheriff and all of his deputies are to be "servants of God." They are there to "serve" the people. In this case, if there was any compassion at all, this woman should be given mercy and a chance to renew her life. With compassion and rehabilitation, possibly she could turn her lifestyle around and become a vibrant serving member of this community. This woman is not "trash" to be thrown away in some garbage bin. In God's eyes, she has worth; she has value. Sheriff Lovin and Chief Deputy Frye should both be very ashamed of themselves that not only are they damaging the reputation of a soul in need, but are also allowing their reputations to be tainted in the public's eye, which affects the community as a whole. How can the current deputies within the sheriff's office, some who hold positions of ministers and deacons condone this behavior from their superiors? For these deputies to stand fast and not act on these injustices, in essence could taint themselves also as guilty. Ed Figueroa Murphy, NC |
