Letters to the Editor "I don't like it, but I think it should be their choice." This letter is in reply to your anti-abortion editorial "They Save Lives". I am not comfortable with abortions, but I do not have much sympathy for the pro-life proponents either. The simple truth is that there are too many unwanted babies in the world. Life may, or may not, begin at conception, and the Bible is not a definitive source of guidance on this. Abortions are still legal. Ending a life in the womb may be a sin, but we support our troops who kill every day in our names. Besides, we are all sinners. Many women are tramautized by an unwanted pregnancy due to rape, incest, or finding that a pregnancy will endanger their owns lives. Have you ever thought that, if abortions were available 2000+ years ago in Bethlehem, we might all still be Jewish? We could push abstinence. While abstinence is 100% effective, it does not work. God gave us the hormones. One way to reduce (reduce, not eliminate) the number of abortions would be for concerned Christians to adopt the unwanted babies. This means adopting the handicapped, retarded and minority babies also. If a pregnant woman knew there was a loving home for her baby, she might be less willing to have an abortion. If a woman plans to have two children and has an abortion before having two children, have you eliminated a life? She could have her two children after the abortion. If she had not had an abortion, she could have ceased having children after two babies. There still will be women that want to terminate their pregnancies by artificial means. I do not like it, but I think that it should be their choice. I'll join you in praying for them. Jacob Dorn |
