Sentinel Staff reports

WIEGOLD
An Andrews man and a Hayesville man were arrested Friday after a quarter to a half ounce of crack cocaine were found after a traffic stop.

The Multiple Agency Narcotics Unit stopped a car on U.S. Hwy. 74 near the Hwy. 141 intersection. As agents were questioning the driver and passenger, they became suspicious. The Cherokee County Sheriff's K-9 unit was called to assist. An exterior search of the vehicle was conducted and the K-9 dog alerted for the presence of illegal narcotics, said sheriff's officials. Agents found crack cocaine and drug paraphernalia.

The driver, 42, of 39 Fairway Meadows Drive in Hayesville, and the passenger, 27, of Andrews and Gainesville, GA, were arrested and transported to the Cherokee county jail. They were placed under $20,000 secured bonds.

Douglas Jemar Burnett, of 295 Aquone Road, Andrews, was charged with maintaining a vehicle for the purpose of transporting a controlled substance, felony possession of crack cocaine with intent to sell and deliver and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Richard Martin Wiegold Jr., of Hayesville, was charged with maintaining a vehicle for the purpose of transporting a controlled substance, felony possession of crack cocaine with intent to sell and deliver, driving with a revoked license and possession of drug paraphernalia.
