Newest technologies in joint replacement

Dr. Brent Davis, Orthopedic Surgeon of Mountain Valley Orthopedics in Murphy, NC, Murphy Medical Center's Peachtree Athletic and Rehabilitation Center (PARC) along with Zimmer Orthopedic Products will host an Open House on May 15, 2008. The event will focus on the Newest Technologies in Joint Replacement. The open house is free for the general public and will be held at the PARC, 3904 Highway 64 East, from 9:00 AM - 1:00 PM.

Dr. Davis will be available throughout the open house to talk with attendees and answer any questions regarding joint replacement. A 72-foot Zimmer Orthopedic bus will be located in the parking lot of the PARC from 9:00-1:00 with joint replacement components for the public to view.

Dr. Davis will present two lectures during the day at 9:00 AM and 11:00 AM on "The Newest Technologies in Joint Replacement." A question and answer session will follow each lecture. A few of the most popular questions people ask about joint replacement include:

How will I know the right time to have my hip or knee replaced?

Dr. Davis: You will know when the time is right for you - when you cannot function as well as you would like to on a daily basis and the pain is too unpleasant.

Q. What are your recommendations for the patient before hip or knee replacement?

Dr. Davis: The patient must be in good health for surgery. If the patient needs to lose weight to maximize the benefits of surgery and recovery, I will recommend weight loss.

Q. How long does it take to recover after joint replacement?

Dr. Davis: Each case varies, but most patients can expect about 6-8 weeks of rehabilitation. With today's innovative treatment procedures, most patients findthat joint replacement can improve the quality of their life within several months after surgery.
