Commissioners approve right of way
Frank Bradley Sentinel Writer

In one of the shortest meetings on record, the Cherokee board of commissioners voted to approve a Right of Way agreement between the county and the state's Department of Traansportation for Little Ranger Road.

The board voted to appoint Lorraine Meltz as an alternate member of Region A Aging Advisory Council.

The board voted to support a proposal for Reach, INC Family Violence Prevention Grant, stating that the county with a population of 25,000 has experienced difficuloteconomic times with the loss of manufacturing jobs and is facing the challenge of a changing job market. The letter of support asked for consideration to a proposal for resources for work among the Department of Social Services and law enforcement agencies to provide resources for safe shelter, parent education and public education.

The board also voted to continue using United Community Bank to handle the county's tax funds because among the three bank proposals, UCB would provide slightly more interest than one of the other banks and also has no excess fees. In the opinion of the Finance Officer,it provided the best financial arrangement for the county's funds.
