Learning the importance of clean water
      The 20th Annual Cherokee County Soil and Water Conservation District held the 2008 Conservation Field Day for all Cherokee County 6th graders. Kelly McDonald, Math and Science Teacher at Ranger Middle School watches as her class experiments with the water quality of the Hiwassee River here in Murphy. Callie Moore of the Hiwassee River Watershed Coalition led the class in an educational activity about water quality, the effects of poor water quality and what causes good and bad water quality.

      Jay Rayfieldand Jennifer Hibberts were united in marriage on April 25, 2008 at The Ballroom in Murphy by the Reverend Aud Brown. Following their cruise to the Bahamas for the honeymoon the couple plans to reside in Murphy.

Students air newscast in class
      Murphy - This semester Murphy High School's Video Production II class started airing a newscast - once a week! WDOG: The Paw was first aired February 13th - during third block. The news crew consisted of Co-Anchors: Jose Alvarez and Brittany Nicholson, Sports Report: Andrews Nichols, and Weather / MHS birthdays: Heather Roberts.

LEONARD ALBERT MAILLOUX
      Leonard Albert Mailloux, age 70 of Downings Creek Rd., Hayesville, NC passed away Tuesday, May 6, 2008 at Murphy Medical Center in Murphy, NC. Mr. Mailloux was a native of Hillsborough County, New Hampshire. Leonard lived in Titusville, Florida before moving to Hayesville 21 years ago. He was of the Catholic faith.
