Lemonade stand helps library

Photo by Julie Chautin Jourdan Brickey and her sister Morgan (from left) held a Crayons Pink Lemonade Brigade fundraiser at the Murphy Library on Saturday, June 21 to raise money for more children's books in the library and to help publicize the library's annual auction.
Jourdan and Morgan Brickey had one of the most photogenic fundraisers in Cherokee County recently. With the help of their mother, Breia Brickey, a volunteer at the Murphy Library, they became part of Crayons Pink Lemonade Brigade and raised money for the library with a lemonade stand.

On June 21 Crayola Crayons organized a nationwide fundraiser run by children on behalf of their favorite charity. To the first 1,000 children who applied, Crayons sent a free cardboard booth kit for the kids to decorate. It includes 100 cans of pink lemonade for them to sell.

The Brickey sisters who attend Haysville Elementary painted their own designs on the stand and held their fundraiser at the entrance to the library. Since June 21 was the day of the library's annual auction, the girls also encouraged their customers to go to Grove Auctions that night.

The young volunteers were delighted with the response to their fundraiser, raising more than $50. They would like to see the money go to buy more books for kids. Their mother says that it's never too early to encourage a child to help others, especially where reading is concerned.
