Bob Grove began the Murphy Library's auction on June 21 with a drum roll flourish and kept the beat going for over two and a half hours as he charmed and cajoled the audience of library patrons. By the end he had helped the Friends of Murphy Library bring in almost $7,000 from both the silent and live auctions.
The library will use the funds to buy new seating for library visitors. They could not do it without the foundation that Bob and Judy Grove supply with the use of their expertise and auction house.
The auction volunteers included Jane Hembree and Joan Tidwell who co-chaired the event and Nora King who made this the best silent auction ever. Their husbands Mac Tidwell, Steve Hembree, and Larry King were not far behind.
Peg and Mike Russell, Kathy and John Hoyt, Elo-ly and Corey Bailey, Fran and Paul McCord, and Sonya and Frank Roberts were among the numerous volunteers who assisted in both the live and silent auctions.
Melissa Barker and her twin daughters Emily and Megan helped Teresa Thomas, her daughter Louise and Virginia Mattox assist Bob and Judy Grove in the front of the packed auction house.
Librarian Jeff Murphy and assistant librarian Steven Abernethy were thrilled with the strong show of support by the community in donating items and in the bidding. Once again the librarians will post a giant list of the auction donors in the middle of the library for all to see.
