Mary Ellen McDonald Rogers, age 77, of Murphy, passed away Thursday, August 14, 2008 at the Murphy Medical Center Nursing Home.

Mrs. Rogers was a native of Cherokee County; she was the daughter of the late Boyd and Addie Coleman McDonald. She was a homemaker, enjoyed sewing and loved her family. She was a member of the Grape Creek Baptist church. She was preceded in death by one son, Gerald Hugh Rogers; two brothers, Floyd McDonald and Claude McDonald and one sister, Dorothy McDonald.

She is survived by her husband, Hugh Rogers; three sons, Bradley Dwight Rogers and his wife Helen of Murphy, Earl Wayne Rogers and his wife Debbie of Rougemount, NC and Anthony Lewis Rogers and his wife Linda of Bel Air, MD; two daughters, Carolyn Spearman and her husband Dean of Tampa, Fla., and Marilyn Raper and her husband Tom of Murphy; three brothers, James Harry McDonald of Gastonia, NC, Ernest Patrick McDonald of West Virginia, and William Hugh McDonald of Chattanooga, Tenn.; one sister, Emma Lou Hill of Murphy; nine grandchildren, Chris Rogers, Erica Dockery, Tonya Rogers, Amanda Crubaugh, Jessica Raper, Jennifer Nichlosen, Pamela Raper, Rebecca Picon and Logan Rogers; three great-grandchildren, Brittney Dockery, Cater Crubaugh and Sydnee Crubaugh; and several nieces and nephews.

The family received friends from 6-8 p.m., Saturday, August 16, at the Townson-Rose Funeral Home Chapel in Murphy.

Funeral services were held at 2:30 p.m., Sunday, August 17, at the Townson-Rose Funeral Home Chapel in Murphy. The Rev. Cecil Coleman officiated. Burial was in the Grape Creek Baptist Church Cemetery in Murphy.

Pallbearers were Nathan Crubaugh, Brian Picon, David Nichlosen, Kevin Dockery, Eddie Dockery and Tony Dockery.
