Linda Turpin

Linda Ruth Smith Turpin, age 63 of Smith Hollow, Murphy, passed away Sunday, September 15, 2008 at her residence.

She was a native of Cherokee County. She was the daughter of Dorothy Ruth Hampton Smith of Murphy, and the late Rev. Charles Alfred Smith. She was the 1963 Valedictorian of Murphy High School, she was an all conference basketball. She graduated with honors from the Grady Hospital School of Nursing. She practiced nursing for one year then became a housewife. Linda volunteered as a nurse in public schools and hospitals. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Murphy

She was preceded in death by two brothers, Charles Edward and Donald Paul Smith.

She is survived by in addition to her mother; her husband, David Turpin; two daughters, Krista Lynn Turpin of Loganville, Ga., and Katherine Marie Turpin and son-in-law, Andrew Blackmun of Denver, Colo.; one brother, Robert L. Smith and his wife Wanda of Mt. Carmel, Tenn.; sister-in-law, Margaret Earlywine of Turtletown, Tenn.; brothers-in-law, Mark and Dana Turbin of Marietta, Ga., and Tim and Denise Turpin of Murphy and three grandchildren, Elizabeth, Christian and Benjamin Blackmun.

Funeral Services will be held at 1 p.m., Saturday, September 20, in the Murphy First United Methodist Church. The Rev. George Yates will officiate. Interment will be held in the Hampton Memorial Cemetery in Murphy. Nephews will serve as pallbearers.

The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., Saturday, September 20, at the Murphy First United Methodist Church.
