Johnny Possum's Good Time Hootin' Band

Johnny Possum's Good Time Hootin' Band from New Zealand will be featured at 7:30 p.m. Friday, October 10 in the Community Room of the John C. Campbell Folk School in Brasstown. The concert is free and open to the public. Donations are gratefully accepted.

Since 2005 Johnny Possum's Good Time Hootin' Band has been delivering their own brand of string band music featuring guitar, fiddle, mandolin, banjo and upright bass. From performances throughout New Zealand to appearances at festivals in the USA the band has developed a solid fan base and following. The band includes Bryan Peters on mandolin, Vicki Johnson on fiddle, Sean Whitaker on 5 string banjo, Keith Taylor on guitar and Jonathan Rosanowski on bass.

The group's debut CD, Tickets' released in 2006 featured the band performing mainly traditional bluegrass tunes in their own style and was a finalist for a 2007 New Zealand Music Award for best Country Music Album. Their first original single, 'Bluegrass Saved the Earth' was a finalist for Country Music Single of the year. The band delivered its 2nd CD in February 2008. Building on strong Americana roots this second recording, Twister', branches out and incorporates the bands own strong musical background and sees the sound of the band begin to reflect influences from bluegrass, folk, Irish, old time and even a hint of rockabilly.

Upcoming concert series performers at the Folk School include Butternut Creek and Friends (October 17) and Dan Levenson (Oct. 31) . The Friday night concert schedule is available on the world wide web at: http://www.folkschool. org..
