WHAT'S HAPPENING
Stage set for Catch me if you can

On Halloween night, the best place to be is the Peacock Playhouse for the opening of Catch Me if You Can, a two-act mystery comedy directed by Laurel Adams.

Last week auditions were held and rehearsals began. This week the stage is becoming a cozy living room in a summer vacation cabin in the Catskills, where the action takes place.

The behind-the-scenes production crew, consisting of Steven Smith, Bob LeKites, Jerome Laux and Gary Thomas, is doing what they do best. Under the direction of Adams, they pay close attention to detail in building a set that invites the audience into this suspenseful make-believe story of mystery and comedy. The cabin is the site of a honeymooning couple who are enjoying the beauty of the New York Mountains until the bride mysteriously disappears.

While saws whine, hammers pound and walls are varnished, costume designer Dawn Gillham is up in the third-floor costume department selecting clothes for the seven-member cast.

"It's a contemporary play and, for the most part, the performers will wear their own clothes, so my job is easy this time." she said. "But certain styles are necessary to reflect the season and personality of the character, as well as follow the storyline.

I'm searching our wardrobes to use what we have. Every play has a cast with different physical sizes and figures and we try to fit them with what we have to stay within our budget."

Since opening night is Halloween, the audience is encouraged to wear costumes; the "best in show" will receive a prize.

Show dates for this delightful mystery-comedy are Oct. 31, Nov. 1-2, & 7-9. Tickets go on sale Oct. 20. Adults $13, Students and Children $8. Rated PG. Peacock Playhouse box office hours are Mon-Fri, 10AM to 4 PM. For further information, telephone 828-389-8632 or toll free 1-877-691-9906.
