Black Knights are too much for Wildcats

The Andrews Wildcats took on the 5-0 Robbinsville Black Knights on Friday. Even though they scored 22 points in the fourth-quarter and held the Knights to only 21 first-half points they came out on the short end. Thefinal score was 53-22.

The third-quarter was tough on the Wildcats where 22 points was scored by the Black Knights. Despite the score the Cats had several bright spots. Cole Postell caught a 26-yard touchdown pass on a tipped pass, Diego Garcia had several nice runs and a touchdown. Devon Trull also scored a touchdown and had several bulldozing carries. Chris Ackerman played well at quarterback and had several nice carries. Nikko Williams filled in nicely for Devin Miller who was hurt on the defensive side. Derek Raxter had several tackles as did Diego Garcia. Waylon Curtis had a couple of tackles for losses. Coach Rickett told the players that they are continuing to improve and will get some wins this year. As Rickett talked to the boys he allowed parents and others out to the middle of the field so they could hear everything that he talked about and pray with the players.

The Wild Cats got the ball first at the 25-yard line but did not convert and had to punt. The Knights had the ball on the 44-yard line. A 46-yard run put the ball inside the 20-yard line. The Knights then had a 17-yard run for a touchdown making the score 7-0 with 9:41 left in the first-quarter.

The Wildcats second possession started when junior Cole Postell caught a 9-yard pass for a first-down. A 16-yard run by Jeremiah Jacobs gave the Cats another first-down but the Knights defense held the Cats short on a fourth-down run by senior Chris Ackerman. The Wildcats defense held the Knights on their second possession and forced a punt. The score remained 7-0 at the end of the first quarter.

The cats could not move on their next possession and had to punt. The Black Knights got the ball at the 37-yard line and scored their second touchdown on a 30-yard run by their quarterback to go up 14-0 with 9:04 left in the second-quarter. Again the Knights defense held the Cats and they got the ball back at the 45-yard line. Two passes for a total of 33-yards and a long run put the Black Knights at the 8-yard line and another touchdown run. Thescore was 21-0.

The Wildcats offense did get a couple of first downs on a 10-yard completion to Jacobs and a 14-yard pass to senior Devin Miller but in the end they had to punt. The Cats defense held their ground on the last drive before the half as seniors Waylon Curtis and Devon Trull got a 17-yard sack and the half ended up 21-0.

In the third-quarter the Knights first drive started at the Cats 23- yard line. With several nice runs the Knights set up to get their fourth touchdown of the night making the score 28-0. On Andrews first drive Ackerman had a nice 23-yard run followed by a 15-yard penalty but the Cats could not convert giving the Knights the ball on the 44-yard line. Robbinsville had a 56-yard run for a touchdown making the score 35-0 with 7:53 left in the third-quarter.

TheWildcats fumbled on their next drive and the Knights capitalized by a 9-yard run and a 2-point conversion on a botched P.A.T. the score was 43- 0. The Wildcats got the ball back and Corey Hancock got a first down on a 10-yard catch. They failed to make another first-down and the Black Knights got the ball back. This time the Andrews Wildcats held them to a 39-yard field goal as the Knights lead stretched to 46-0.

TheCats offense started from their own 26-yard. Chris Ackerman had a 16-yard run followed by a 10-yard run by senior Nikko Williams. They Wildcats started to power their way down the field and got the ball inside the 1-yard line where they scored their first touchdown of the night. A successful 2-point conversion made the score 46-8. Again the defense held they Black Knights. Andrews had the ball at the Knights 36-yard line and started a drive toward the endzone. Andrews scored a touchdown but the 2-point conversion failed. The score stood at 46-14 with 2:10 left in the game.

After a short kickoff return the ball was at the 12-yard line but a 88-yard run for a touchdown put the Knights up 53-14. The Wildcats got the ball back on the 16-yard line and with some nice running plays the Wildcats put the ball back in Black Knight territory. The ball was thrown into the endzone where it was tipped and caught by Wildcat Cole Postell for a touchdown. Another successful 2-point conversion put the final score at 53-22 with six seconds left. TheWildcats will travel to Rosmon to face the 2-4 (0-2 conference) Tigers. The following week they will play the Murphy Bulldogs.
