Walter Evans, age 82, of Murphy, passed away Tuesday, November 11, 2008 at Murphy Medical Center Nursing Home

He was a native of Macon County, and had lived in the Nantahala community before coming to Murphy, six years ago. He was the son of the late Cline and Lori Rowland Evans. He was retired from Baker Furniture as a furniture repairman. Walter was a member of the Aquone Baptist Church in Aquone. He enjoyed wood working, crafts and fishing. He was preceded in death by his brother, Andrew Evans and his sister, Opal Dills.

He is survived by his wife, Velma Marie Waldroup Evans; two sons, Walter Russell Evans of Walhalla, SC and Phillip Cline Evans of Murphy; daughter, Carmaleta Williams of Merrita, SC; one brother, Ralph Evans of Lexington, NC; two sisters, Nellie Taylor of Topton, and Lucy Epley of Hickory, NC; three grandchildren eight great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

The family received friends from 6-8 p.m., Wednesday, November 12, at the Townson- Rose Funeral Home Chapel in Murphy.

Funeral Services were held at 8 p.m., Wednesday, November 12, at the Townson-Rose Funeral Home Chapel in Murphy. Thes Rev. Doyce Waters, Ronnie Palmer and Dennis Ashe officiated. Burial was at 11 a.m., Thursday, November 13, in the Aquone Cemetery in Aquone.

Pallbearers were be Jeffery Williams, Bruce Broome, Timmy Broome, Dwayne Bold, Ronald Waldroup and Donnie Rhodes. Honorary Pallbearer will be Ray Barkley.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made In Memory of Walter Evans to the American Cancer Society, 120 Executive Park, Bldg. 1, Asheville, NC 28801.
